About Cyclonauts
Cyclonauts is a hobby project of mine. I'm an avid cyclist and love statistics! I'll use this section to give you some insights into the project, what's new, what's planned and where it's heading in general. Feedback is always welcome. I hope you enjoy this project as much as I do!
Latest Features
Activity achievements
Activity achievements are now tracked and posted in Strava summary updates.
Better map filtering
Improved the OSM import to filter out more irrelevant and dangerous roads:
Changes:
- service roads with certain types of barriers
- roads with a separate cycling lane
- bus lanes
Faster data loading
Improved cache handling which should speed up the FE considerably.
Added more countries
Added Canada, Mexico, Turkey, Malaysia, Singapore and Laos. More to come! Some of the countries have relatively poor data quality (e.g. municipality data is missing in MY and LA), which is a problem that should be fixed in OSM.
Country Coverage
Implemented the country coverage section. Next step is adding more countries :)
Small UI improvements
Fixed UI (especially the map display) for iPhone and implemented a few stubbed features left over from the redesign.
Frontend redesign
Big redesign of the UI, hope you like it! A few features got added as well.
Changes:
- added a new "About" section to track the project status
- added a histogram to the dashboard
- activities are sortable
- bigger, separate map controls
Faster Onboarding
Improved the onboarding flow for new users. Activities are batch processed now during the initial import which should result in a significant speedup.
Zone Achievements
Added the zone achievement layer to the global map. Zones are color coded according to the completion level. The granularity depends on the zoom level, e.g. when zoomed out you only see country info, on very high zoom levels you see city districts. Click on any displayed zone to see the actual completion grade.
